But his luck ran out on Friday.

On April 2, Nadeem Qureshi and three of his associates — identified as Firoz Khan, Akbar and Kallu Qureshi — were arrested from the Thane district of Maharashtra for their alleged involvement in a series of burglaries at the highly-secure IFS and Supreme Enclave Apartment complexes in east Delhi, police said.

“They would wear expensive clothes, mostly suits, to gain easy access to apartments in high profile societies,” said a senior police officer.

According to police, once they had access, the gang would use implements such a ‘Farma Bardar’ or a ‘Daulatiya’ — which is a lock-breaking instrument to break open locks.

Police said Qureshi and his associates were apprehended from Rabodi in Maharashtra’s Thane district, after receiving a tip-off about the gang hiding there.

The arrests came following the police’s scrutiny of details about UP-based criminals being released from prison.

“During the course of that exercise, it was revealed that two members of Nadeem’s gang, namely, Arif and Mainuddin, had been released recently,” said the officer.

The duo had reportedly stayed in jail for two years, met Nadeem when they were released on bail and started committing crimes in the NCR, police said.

“During interrogation, Nadeem confessed to committing burglaries for the past 12 years. He said he was involved in 500 burglaries during that period,” the officer added.
