A security scare was triggered near the ITC Maurya hotel on Saturday when a Tata Indica car caught fire.

The police officials the incident took place around 9:30 pm when Rajesh Kumar a Gurgaon resident was on his way to drop his son at New Delhi railway station. Police say that in his statement, Rajesh claimed that when they reached SP Marg near the hotel, where US president Barack Obama will be staying, his driver saw smoke coming out from the car’s bonnet.
"The driver tried to look for the source and pull in at a side of the road. He saw some smoke coming out of the car engine. Before he could make out what had happened, the car caught fire," a senior police officer said.
