The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday found Rs. 1 crore in cash from Khatri’s homes in Gurgaon and Rohtak.

The raids came a day after he was arrested on charges of accepting a bribe of Rs. 7 lakh from alleged middlemen of an Orissa based company for placing a limestone project for consideration of ministry’s expert appraisal committee. In all, Khatri owns four properties in posh locations in Haryana, and has been active in cutting ‘deals’ for clearances for the last 3-4 years, say CBI investigators.
Meanwhile, a CBI court in Delhi remanded Khatri and alleged middleman Chinmaya Shri Chandan to CBI custody till January 21.
The investigative agency had sought custody of the two saying their interrogation was required “to recover incriminating documents and to unfold the wider conspiracy and also to find out their nexus with other officials in the Ministry of Environment and Forests”.
The CBI has alleged that Chariot Group wanted clearance for its Raiboga Mines at Birmitrapur in Sundargarh, Odisha.
The company had allegedly hired SS Environics Pvt Ltd to get the clearance, it said.
