Chain-snatchers shoot at girl in E Delhi; one held
Chain snatchers shot at a woman when she tried to resist their loot attempt in Mayur Vihar, east Delhi, on Wednesday morning. The woman and her sister caught hold of one of the snatchers and did not let him go even after getting shot twice in the chest.
The incident occurred around 6.30 am when the two sisters Santosh (20) and Sudesh (35) were drying cowdung cakes near their house in Chilla village. Two men on a motorcycle arrived and one of them got down and tried to snatch Santosh’s earrings and chain. The woman hit back and held him by his throat. In the meantime, Sudesh rush to her sister’s help and beat the accused.
“We held his collars and did not let him go till the end. He started beating us. We shouted for help. In the meantime, the other man who was sitting on the motorcycle opened fire at my sister. She got two bullets and is battling for life at a city hospital,” said Sudesh.
In the meantime a crowd gathered at the scene and caught the accused.
“Some pellets also hit me and my hands were bruised. I called for my brothers who came and beat the robber,” said Sudesh Kumari. Santosh was rushed to Lal Bahadur Shahstri Hospital from where she was shifted to Holy Family Hospital later.
While Sudesh lives in Chilla Village at Mayur Vihar, Phase-I along with her parents, Santosh who is married lives in Sohna and had come to her parent’s house a few days ago. The Police said that they have arrested the accused identified as Umesh Kumar (35) and a hunt is on to nab his accomplice.
A case of attempt to murder has been registered.
