Civic bodies declare Chhath holiday

The civic bodies have passed a resolution to this affect and forwarded them to the Lieutenant Governor for approval.

Leader of the House, South Delhi, Subhash Arya said Delhi has a sizeable population from the Poorvanchal region for whom Chhath is the biggest festival. He added that the corporations have earmarked R50 lakh for preparing the water bodies and river banks for the festival.

"The corporations will clean the ghats on the banks of river Yamuna so that worshippers don't face any inconvenience. Mobile dispensaries would also be stationed near the ghats during the Puja for providing free health services," Arya said.
