Congress blames 'Anti-incumbency' for TN defeat

Conceding defeat in the Tamil Nadu polls, the Congress today said the anti-incumbency factor had worked in favour of the AIADMK, which routed the DMK-Congress ruling alliance in the state.

"There are two-three states in our country, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Punjab to a great extent, where hardly any government has had the opportunity to form the government twice. So you have seen in Kerala the government is going to change for sure. In so far Tamil Nadu is concerned, it was the anti-incumbency factor," Congress general secretary and health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad told NDTV news channel.

Azad, the party in-charge in Tamil Nadu, said in the last elections, the DMK was voted to govern and "this time it was natural that it is the turn of the AIDMK to come to power".

"In Tamil Nadu, the party which is in the government has always been voted out, and that anti-incumbency has once again worked there," he said.
