Shatrughan, the cook working with Rohan Gupta, was fired from his job in October last year after he reportedly misbehaved with the couple. To take revenge, he planned to carry out a robbery and roped in five people.

Five men armed with knives, a pistol and cutters allegedly barged into the bungalow at DLF farms in South Delhi’s Chhatarpur, made the security guard and an elderly couple unconscious by putting a chloroform drenched handkerchief to their noses, and strangled their 38-year-old son, Rohan Gupta, to death, when he tried to resist.

Sources said Shatrughan, who was arrested from Gurgaon after a raid, worked at the couple’s home for over a year and used to stay in the servant quarters. Sources said since he used to cook and serve the meals, he knew the locations where the all their valuables, including cash.

“He knew that the family is well-off and to earn quick bucks, he roped in five people. Since he was well aware of the area’s geography and the entry and exit points of the house, he charted out a blueprint for the robbers. The men were to get half of the booty,” a police source said.

According to sources, Shatrughan, told the men — Ajay Kumar (18), Vipin Kumar (22), Shivnath Sahni (20), Shyambabu (29) and Vinod Sahni (38) — to enter the house from the kitchen and also told them about the gate from where they can gain entry to the bungalow. Shatrughan told them the points where the guards are posted and also the time when the family sleeps.

“He told the men the locations of the bedrooms of the inmates. The gang planned the robbery for a good one month. We have brought Shatrughan to Delhi and he is being questioned,” a police source said.
