The countdown clock was unveiled by VK Malhotra, leader of the opposition in Delhi Assembly and senior vice president, Indian Olympic Association on Saturday.

“Same day next year, Delhiites will witness the Games,” Malhotra said.

“We are hopeful Delhi will host the world’s best Games. There is no need to worry. Everything will take place on time.”

Even as the digital countdown clock flashed 365 days for the Games with a dozen projects still waiting to start, secretary general of the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee Lalit Bhanot brushed aside all worries.

“The entire nation will be proud of Delhi for holding the best Games in the world. All our projects are on track,” Bhanot said.

He further said the committee would get in touch with the Ministry of Sports over the desire expressed by the president of the Commonwealth Games federation Michael Fennel to meet the Indian Prime Minister.

“We will consult the ministry regarding the meeting. Also, there is a scheduled meeting of the Commonwealth Games General Assembly Federation this month where we will answer all their queries,” he said.

Bhanot further said that all stadiums for the Games would meet the deadline.

“Every project will meet the deadline. You can’t expect all the infrastructure projects to be ready one year ahead,” he said.
