The force said Govind was stabbed several times by his friend, Pawan, over an argument which began after “some confusion” over who had won a gambling hand at Subzi Mandi on Sunday evening.

“The victim and his friends were drinking and playing cards last evening when an argument broke out over who had won the Rs. 180 in the pot,” said a senior police officer.

Push came to shove with Pawan claiming that he had won the money but Govind refusing to relent despite the intervention of the others.

Pawan then took out a kitchen knife from his pocket and, after a brief struggle, pushed Govind to the ground and began attacking him with it.

“Govind was stabbed multiple times in the chest and abdomen before he was rushed to the Bara Hindu Rao hospital by a team from the local police station. He was, however, pronounced dead,” the officer said.

Based on the statements of the others, Pawan was tracked down and arrested from his rented accommodation located not far away from the lane where the incident took place.
