While most entrance exams were earlier handled by the exam branch, it will now be the responsibility of respective departments running the courses. Not only the entrance exams, even end semester exams will now be completely under the departments.

“The step has been taken as the exam branch is very busy after the implementation of the semester system at the undergraduate level. By the time we finish work for one semester, it is time for the second semester,” said RC Sharma, dean, Examinations.

Apart from simplifying the examination process, the move will also speed up the results.

“Earlier too, most work was being done by the departments. We had to send written approvals for everything, which would take time. Now we have given them autonomy in the matter and they need only to tell us the dates for exams and give us the copies of question papers,” Sharma added.

The move will also make the process easier for the exam bench.
