Delhi: Woman found dead, family alleges murder

The 24-year-old niece of MCD’s south zone chairman Kartar Singh Tanwar was found hanging from an iron rod inside the bathroom of her in-law’s Fatehpuri Beri residence on Tuesday evening. The woman, identified as Poonam, was rushed to a nearby hospital where the doctors declared her brought dead.

Poonam’s family members, however, claimed foul play and said she had been killed and hanged by her in-laws. They accused the in-laws of harassment and said they tortured her for dowry.

The in-laws, in turn, claimed that Poonam committed suicide by hanging herself. Sources said Poonam had married Vikas in February 2012.

An SDM-level enquiry has been ordered in the matter. The officers at the Fatehpur Beri police station are questioning Poonam’s husband and other in-laws in connection to the incident.
