The dengue-free coolers will have mosquito nets above the water level to prevent mosquitoes from entering and laying eggs in the water. The cooler will also use the extract of a plant called Agave Americana instead of temephose granules, petrol or diesel to curb the breeding of the mosquitoes.

“The extract of crushed leaves from the plant when used in a particular amount as per the capacity of the tank, destroys the larva within 1 to 8 hours. This would be expanded to other zones as well,” said Praveen Gupta, commissioner, north municipal body. He said the coolers were designed by National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
