DJB to make discarded water fit for use

A recycling plant was launched by Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit at Wazirabad Water Treatment Plant (WTP) on Tuesday.
The plant will treat wastewater generated during the initial process of raw water treatment carried out in Wazirabad WTP and will make it fit for consumption.
Built at a cost of Rs 27.8 crore, the plant will add another 11 MGD to the existing water capacity and benefit 5 lakh residents of Burari region of North Delhi.
“Water is a finite resource and it is therefore the responsibility of each citizen to promote its efficient usage,” said Dikshit. “Setting up integrated recycling plants at our water treatment plants is only one step ahead in this direction,” she added.
“The plant has been so designed that no wastewater shall be generated; even if it’s generated, it’ll be fed back into the system, causing minimal waste,” said Ramesh Negi, CEO, DJB.
The DJB is in the process of building similar treatment plants in Bhagirathi and Chandrawal Water Treatment complexes as well.
