DTC cracks down on errant staff

The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) has taken disciplinary action against over 750 bus drivers and conductors for speeding, driving rashly and misbehaving with passengers.

The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) has taken disciplinary action against over 750 bus drivers and conductors for speeding, driving rashly and misbehaving with passengers.

In a special drive, on since July 20, DTC officials said they checked 15106 buses – both low floor and standard floor - and found more than 7300 irregularities in them.

“We have initiated disciplinary action 476 drivers and 288 conductors. The action ranged from a simple warning to suspension of increment if the irregularity was of grave nature,” a DTC spokesperson said.

Among the serious offences, 30 drivers were found to be speeding, 58 did not stop buses at designated places, 189 were responsible of improper parking while 16 drivers were found using mobiles while driving.

The supervisory teams also found 288 cases of air-conditioners malfunctioning and 95 instances of bunching of buses on the same route.

Officials said the drive will continue till July 31.

“Our aim is to ensure safety and security of passengers. We keep launching such drives against our staff and it has produced good results,” a senior DTC official said.
