Why? Himanshu Tokas, a 21-year-old school dropout not only went back on his word when the girl insisted on marriage, but also stopped receiving her calls.

The 18-year-old BA first year student of the Delhi University's south campus alleged that Tokas raped her for about a year after promising marriage. Medical tests also confirmed rape.

On a complaint by the girl - who is also a mass communication student in a private institute in south Delhi - the RK Puram police arrested Tokas and sent him to judicial custody on Tuesday.

According to a police officer, Tokas lives lavishly on rent that his family earns from houses in the Mohammadpur area in south Delhi.

The police said the girl met Tokas at a networking site in December last year.

"Very soon, they started meeting each other and a couple of months later, Tokas proposed marriage and she accepted."

Tokas allegedly used to take her to vacant flats where he raped her couple of times.

After Tokas refused to marry her, the girl confided the whole affair to her mother who, in turn, informed her husband, a government employee posted outside Delhi.
