There was colour, fireworks, goose-bumps, songs and there were spectators booing OC chairman, Suresh Kalmadi, for the period he addressed the gathering. But unlike the last time, Kalmadi did not cut short his speech.

A pleasant surprise was Rahul Gandhi occupying a seat in the spectators’ gallery and the crowd cheered the young leader. Shera, the Games’ mascot, came face-to-face with the crowd for the last time as he accompanied singer Shaan on a well-lit four-wheeler.

The highlight of the evening, however, were Bollywood singers, Kailash Kher, Ila Arun , Sukhwinder Singh, Shankar Mahadevan, Sunidhi Chauhan, Usha Uthup, taking the stage and setting it on fire.

The icing on the cake was the athletes trooping to the centre of the stadium and dancing with the volunteers. In the end, what was termed as a fortnight-long festival did turn out to be so.

Power: Divided into four generator farms, 10 Mega Watts of power was supplied through 26 feeder panels for the closing ceremony. For this, over 50 km of power cable was used
