Nine fire tenders took almost an hour to douse the flames.

The incident happened at 9.45am, when some chemicals kept inside Rajdhani godown caught fire. The flames reached the other two rooms, where foam mattress where kept, and the fire spread even further, the police said.

“Both families used to live in the two room transport godown, where they worked as labourers,” said a senior police officer.

The dead have been identified as Sanjay Tiwari, 40, his son Rishabh, 6, Manti Devi, 28, and her son, 5. “Tiwari’s wife and other son, 5, have received serious injuries,” the officer added.

“Manti Devi was pregnant and her husband Sandeep was away at the time of the incident,” the police officer said.

The police have registered a case of negligence against the godown owner, Sunil Nagpal.
