Foreigners will have to be cautious: Krishna

In the backdrop of the controversial remarks by Congress MP from Goa Shantaram Naik on alleged rape of a Russian girl, External Affairs Minister S M Krishna on Wednesday said the foreigners "will have to be very cautious with whom they move".

In the backdrop of the controversial remarks by Congress MP from Goa Shantaram Naik on alleged rape of a Russian girl, External Affairs Minister S M Krishna on Wednesday said the foreigners "will have to be very cautious with whom they move".

"It is the responsibility of the government of India to see that every foreigner is protected. (But) even they (foreigners) will have to be very cautious with whom they move," he said.

Naik had said in the Rajya Sabha yesterday that if a woman moves with strangers in the late hours, the case of rape should be treated differently, evoking strong protests from women members.

John Fernandes, the accused in the rape case, was today absconding after his anticipatory bail was cancelled by the Goa bench of Mumbai High Court.

Fernandes, a high-profile politician from South Goa, had allegedly raped the 25-year-old girl at Colva beach on December one.
