Soon Bhagat Singh Kranti Sena members, some of who had been involved in the attack on lawyer-activist Prashant Bhushan, reached there and clashed with Siddiqui’s relatives.

The situation spiralled out of control when both groups started raising religious slogans but the police immediately swung into action. “Kamran’s brother Yunus was speaking to the media when the drama began. We immediately took Yunus inside and dispersed the crowd,” a senior police officer said.

Siddiqui’s family members say he runs an NGO and that they had never expected him to do such a thing. “He used to get many invitations for press conferences. We got to know about the incident only through TV. We haven’t got a chance to meet him yet,” Harun Siddiqui, Kamran’s brother said.

Police said Siddiqui has six criminal cases registered against him in Delhi and NCR.
