According to the council, the number of girls who failed both the exams was also smaller than that of boys. “Girls have done much better than boys in both the ICSE as well as the ISC examinations. In the ICSE exam, 1,337 boys failed while for girls, the figure is 495. In the ISC exam, 1,196 boys failed the exam and for girls it is 438,” said Gerry Arathoon, chief executive and secretary, CISCE.

After Delhi boy Arpit Aggarwal topped the IIT-JEE, it was time for students from the Delhi-NCR region to shine, with Shriya Talwar — a student of Holy Child School in Ghaziabad — scoring 97.6% in the ICSE and Nidhi Singh, a commerce student of Scottish International High School, Gurgaon — scoring 97.75% in the ISC exam. Only 2,199 students from 29 schools appeared in the class 12 exam while 850 students from 17 schools appeared in the class 10 exam in the Delhi-NCR region.

Of the two prominent schools — Frank Anthony Public School and The Shri Ram School — the top scorers ranged between 94% and 97%.

While Madhavi Singh of Carmel School (Dhanbad) and Shalaka Kulkarni of Sulochana Devi Singhania School (Thane) topped with 98.9% in the ICSE exam, Rohan Sampat of Dubai Model High School topped the ISC exam with 99.5%.

CISCE added that the pass percentage in India has been the highest among southern states, while the percentage has touched 100% in schools abroad.

“In ICSE, southern India has the best pass percentage of 99.76% followed by the western region (99.71%), eastern region (98.76%) and the northern region (97.65%).

Abroad, students have had a pass percentage of 100%. The situation is similar for ISC. The southern region has the best pass percentage of 99.35% followed by the western, eastern and northern regions,” Arathoon added.
