Based on the authenticity of the charges and the video, further action will be taken.
Justice Sarin also asked the Hindi newspaper, which carried the story, to provide details of the report. The Lokayukta order came after taking note of the sting operation in which it was allegedly shown that councillors were demanding bribes to facilitate illegal and unauthorised construction.
“In case the allegation in the report are correct, a case for inquiry under Section 7 read with Section 2 (i) (b) of the Delhi Lokayukta and Uplokayukta Act 1995 is disclosed against the eight councillors for their conduct,” stated justice Sarin.
“As per press report, in the sting operation shown by the TV channel, these councillors were recorded as demanding illegal gratification ranging from R2 lakh to R10 lakh,” said justice Sarin in the order.
Eight councillors, six from BJP and two from Congress, including a former mayor, were caught on camera in the sting operation, following which they were suspended from their parties.
