A day after HT highlighted the alleged serial sexual abuse at Arya Orphanage, Delhi government has decided to appoint an administrator to oversee its functioning. However, as the orphanage is not registered under the Juvenile Justice Act, it has not been able to take any legal action against the management.

The government is also trying to shift some of the children, who have admitted to being sexually assaulted, to the government-run orphanages.

Shantha Sinha, chairperson of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights has demanded a proper follow up of the case. "Child welfare department has the mandate to look into the orphan homes when required. A serious follow up of the case is required and should be done immediately," she told a news channel.

The Child Welfare Committee, which conducted a separate inquiry, has recommended that the orphanage should be registered and brought under supervision.

The report has also said that a number of children have narrated the tale of serial sexual abuse inside the orphanage.

“Neha (name changed) has shared names of male staff members who have been misbehaving with the girls. There is a probability of getting more information from them regarding the case,” states the report. The CWC has recommended protection for Neha as she is sharing crucial evidence.
