The MCD on Monday criticised the Delhi government for delaying at least 19 MCD road and 116 road repair projects by not making administrative approvals on time.

Chairman of the Standing Committee, Yogendra Chandolia, alleged that the government is doing so deliberately to ruin the image of the BJP-led MCD.
Chandolia said that the MCD has proposals to revamp 27,000 km of roads, improving the condition of 1,230 schools, unauthorised colonies, rural and urbanised villages and also resettlement colonies. But because of Delhi government’s delay in releasing funds, the civic agency has not been able to do so.
“If the Delhi government had given consent to these projects, some of them would have been completed by now,” he said.
According to Chandolia, MCD has made a demand for R1,547 crore from the government for the implementation of the projects, but the Congress-led government is sitting over the plans for political reasons.
With the MCD going to elections in April next year, both the political parties — Congress and BJP — have been blaming each other for the shabby developmental work in the city.
The Congress in the past few months has been blaming MCD for its inability to maintain roads and diverting money meant for roads towards other purposes. Delhi government insists that it has been providing funds but they are being utilised for unassigned works.
The chairman of the Standing Committee also said that he has written letters to the Union Home Minister, Union Urban Development Minister and Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, asking them to intervene in the matter so that the citizens of Delhi are not left behind in terms of development.
