Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today held discussions with Congress President Sonia Gandhi and his senior cabinet colleagues on the Telangana issue after which an appeal was made to fasting TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao to withdraw his protest.

"We would like to make an appeal to him (Rao) to withdraw his fast. The Government is seized of the matter," Law Minister Veerappa Moily told reporters after the meeting in Parliament House.

He refused to disclose any details about the discussions at the meeting. Besides Singh and Gandhi, the meeting was attended by Defence Minister A K Antony, Home Minister P Chidambaram and Moily. Senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel also attended the meeting.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah, who is in the capital, is also likely to meet Singh and Gandhi.
