After underlining the importance he attaches to the impact of climate change by attending the Copenhagen meeting, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is now keen to take this message down home as well.

“We will put on fast track the eight national missions that form the core of the National Action Plan,” said a minister in an informal conversation. The missions represent multi-pronged strategies for achieving key goals which include the mission on enhanced energy efficiency, the solar mission, the mission on sustainable habitat, the water mission, the mission for sustaining the Himalayan eco-system, the mission for a green India, the mission for sustainable agriculture and
the mission on strategic knowledge for climate change.

The plan prepared by the ministry of power and the bureau of energy efficiency, and approved by the Prime Minister’s Council on Climate Change has been scheduled to roll out from April 1, 2010.
