Hassle-free working day of exclusive Games lane

Traffic condition, on the first working day when Delhi Traffic police enforced exclusive dedicated Games lane, was not as bad during daytime as it was in the evening.

Traffic condition, on the first working day when Delhi Traffic police enforced exclusive dedicated Games lane, was not as bad during daytime as it was in the evening. Traffic went out of gear during evening hours at several places and as many as 100 people were caught for entering Games lane.

Traffic jams were reported from Kalindi Kunj-Noida, Kalkaji K Block, Dhala Kaun–Mahipalpur, Motinagar-Panjabi Bagh, Nehru Place, Subrata Park-Rajouri Garden.

Restrictions on vehicular movement from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. was imposed on several stretches including roads connecting Games Village and IG Stadium via Nizamuddin and Barapullah, Bhairon Road Crossing to Dhyanchand Hockey Stadium, Barapullah to Panchsheel Marg.

“We had to manage traffic by allowing airport bound traffic to use the dedicated lane on the SP Marg for some time during the evening when there was no athletes’ movement,” he said.

“We have challaned 89 people for entering the lane and issued notices to 11 others. Each traffic norm violator had to pay R2,000 as fine,” said Satyendra Garg, joint CP (Traffic).
