Prison sources and Hazare’s associates said he was pining for a television set to keep tabs on the progress of his campaign.

A prison source told HT, “Since Hazare wanted a TV set, we installed one in the hall in which he is currently staying at 1 pm today. He was very pleased and thanked us.”

HT had on Thursday reported on Hazare’s desire for a television set. The conference hall in the prison complex, where Hazare is lodged along with his three associates, did not have a television set.

The source added that images of his feisty supporters, both young and old, shouting slogans in favour of his anti-corruption campaign, on the television set “perked up Hazare”.

Hazare thanked a few jail officials for allowing his stay inside the prison but expressed “remorse” that due to his presence they had to face difficulties related to the gathering of his supporters around the jail. But a miffed jail source said, “Though admittedly a Gandhian, Hazare has stayed on as an unwanted guest. He is a guest whose departure time is not known.”
