Anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare’s team on Thursday began a four-day referendum on the lokpal bill in the Chandni Chowk parliamentary constituency, represented by the telecom minister Kapil Sibal.

Volunteers of ‘Hazare-led India Against Corruption (IAC), went door-to-door in 10 localities and distributed a two-page questionnaire with eight questions.

The Hazare team expects to cover around seven lakh voters of the constituency by Sunday.

Arvind Kejriwal, a member of the joint drafting panel for the Lokpal bill, said the team decided to choose Chandni Chowk, since it is represented by Sibal, “who is the government’s face on the Lokpal bill.”

“If people vote for the civil society’s version, then we will ask Sibal whether he will go by the party high command or people’s wishes,” Kejriwal said.

He said the results are expected to be declared by July 27.
