HC seeks report on prosecutors’ work conditions

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday deputed two senior Government officials — Principal Secretary (Home) and Principal Secretary (Law) to visit the five subordinate court complexes in the capital to assess the working conditions of public prosecutors.

Shocking and appalling”, was how acting Chief Justice M B Lokur and Justice Mukta Gupta reacted to an affidavit filed by the Delhi Prosecutors’ Welfare Association detailing their plight. Appearing for the association, senior lawyer Siddharth Luthra said upto 20 prosecutors shared a single room in Tis Hazari and there were no washrooms and water purifiers exclusively for them.
