HC to media, cops: observe restraint
The Delhi high court on Wednesday asked the police, hospitals, Child Welfare Committee and the media to observe restraint while handling cases like that of the two-year-old battered child fighting for her life in Aiims.
“It is an issue of vital importance,” said a Bench headed by acting Chief Justice AK Sikri, while hearing a PIL slamming the manner in which the ban on revealing identity and details of children in need of care and protection, and juveniles was being “violated with impunity”.
The PIL filed by lawyer Anant Asthana also questioned revealing the name and details of the 15-year-old girl who had brought the two-year-old to the hospital and was being questioned by the Child Welfare Committee.
Directing the Delhi government to frame guidelines in this regard, the Bench also constituted a committee comprising representatives from the Centre, Delhi government, juvenile justice board, NCPCR, NGO working in the sphere and media to help draft the guidelines in the matter.
