Seju P Kuruvilla, additional DCP (New Delhi) said that the errant head constable, identified as Pravesh Kumar, was posted at the Connaught Place Police Station which falls under the same police district as his chosen scene of crime.

“The incident came to light around 12:45am when a constable spotted Pravesh and his accomplice, Pawan Kumar, entering the Parliament Street Police Station from its rear gate,” said a police officer.

The duo first attempted to start a motorcycle parked near the gate and then went inside the station when they couldn’t succeed. Five minutes later, they came out of the police station and started trying their luck with another motorcycle.

“Sensing something amiss, the constable intervened and overpowered both of them before handing them over to a senior officer on duty at the police station,” the officer said.

Both of them have been sent to a week’s police custody and investigations into the duo’s previous involvements are being investigated.
