The Centre is treading a conscious path in the dialogue process with Pakistan ahead of the Lok Sabha polls next year.

India-Pakistan ties has a great deal of resonance in domestic politics and the Centre doesn't seem to be going for any proactive diplomacy with its neighbour.

Ahead of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh meeting his counterpart Nawaz Sharif on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meeting (UNGA) in New York in September, India and Pakistan are looking at holding the water secretary level talks in August.

Both sides are looking at hosting the talks on Sir Creek then. Pakistan has to host both the talks. The third round of Pakistan-India dialogue was launched in September 2012, but got de-railed after tension along the border in January.
