A 50-year-old Japanese woman was found dead and her French husband unconscious in a hotel, apparently due to drug overdose.

A 50-year-old Japanese woman was found dead and her French husband unconscious in a hotel in New Delhi Monday morning , apparently due to drug overdose.

The incident came to light when staff of a hotel in Paharganj went to the room after Agase Jean Marry sought their help in arranging a doctor for his wife Okoru Odda after she collapsed in the room, police said.

When the staff went inside the room, police said, they found both of them in an unconscious state.

Odda was already dead, police said, adding investigators suspect that she has either died of drug abuse or suffered cardiac arrest.

Marry was rushed to Lady Hardinge Hospital where his condition was stated to be serious, they said.

The body of Odda has been sent for autopsy.

"We have not registered a case yet. We will do so only after the autopsy report of Odda is received," a senior police official said.

The couple had checked in the hotel on November 3.
