Job cheat forges law minister’s letterhead

An unemployed man was allegedly duped of Rs 15 lakh by a conman who forged law minister Salman Khurshid’s signature and promised him a job in the Railway Ministry, police said.

The victim, Jagdish Prasad alleged that he was fooled by the letterhead that had Khurshid’s signature and because he was desperate for a job. “Prasad was shown a counterfeit letter with the forged signature of the minister. A case of cheating has been lodged at crime branch of Delhi police,” a senior police official said.

Prasad came in contact with the accused, Karan Singh, a month back. According to the complaint, Singh told Prasad that he had many contacts in the Railway ministry and assured him that he would provide him with a job in the Railways.

Prasad, a graduate, is a resident of Shastri Nagar and was desperately looking for a job. Singh, who lives in a rented accommodation in Karol Bagh’s Beadonpura area, asked Prasad to pay him R15 lakh in two installments in return of which he promised him the job of an Assistant Station Master, a police officer said.

A week later, Singh showed Prasad a letter on Khurshid’s letterhead which also had the minister’s signature. Believing that Singh would indeed get him a job, Prasad paid the amount, said police.

A few days after the payment was made, Singh could not be reached either on the phone or at his house. "We have registered a case of cheating," said a senior police officer of the crime branch.
