BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain said, “An important minister like the law minister has accepted what people have been saying all along. Khurshid's comments clearly show that the Congress is directionless. We agree with his statement.”

Hussain said Khurshid's remark only shows that the blame for the state of affairs in the Congress as well as the government falls on party chief Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. “Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi are leading the government and the party, and Khurshid has raised questions on their leadership abilities. There is a governance deficit, lack of coordination and mutual distrust in the Congress and the government,” he said.

Referring to Khurshid's comments that the people have only seen cameos of Rahul Gandhi’s thoughts, Hussain said the Congress general secretary’s “experiments” in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab had failed.

“The Congress is directionless, and there is a lack of leadership in the party. It sees a dark picture everywhere, in the midst of which Rahul Gandhi carried out his experiments in three states. Now the Congress realises that he cannot deliver,” Hussain said.

The BJP spokesperson said Khurshid and other leaders have a misconception that if Rahul Gandhi takes charge, the Congress’ lot could change. “They do not realise that he is already involved. He is the general secretary of the party, and virtually the number 2 after Sonia Gandhi,” he said.
