A 52-year-old landlady was beaten to death allegedly by her tenants here after an argument over unpaid rent and an electricity bill, police said on Wednesday.

Devi Rani, who was staying with her son Vijay Kumar in Geeta Colony in east Delhi, had rented the first floor of her house to Inderjit and his son Rinku - both known by their first names only.
The tenants had been having a dispute with the house owner for the last few months as they were neither paying the rent nor vacating the house. On Tuesday, Kumar had an argument over an electricity bill with Inderjit and his family, a police official said.
"There was a heated exchange of words and the tenants began to beat Kumar. Hearing his cries, Rani rushed to save him and was in turn severely beaten," said a policeman.
She fell unconscious during the melee. Kumar caught hold of Inderjit and his son Rinku. But four other family members of the accused managed to flee from the spot.
"Rani was rushed to the Swami Dayanand Hospital where she was declared brought dead. We have arrested Inderjit and his son Rinku," the official said.
“We are searching for the other family members and they have been made co-accused in the case.” he added.
