DTC officials say that in many buses the engines have also been damaged chiefly due to ill-maintained roads. DTC has now decided to write to the concerned agencies to carry out repair work immediately.

“We are regularly getting complaints from bus drivers and supervisors that the buses are getting damaged due to bad stretches. The condition of the stretches has been deteriorating for some time and now that monsoon is over they should start repairing them,” said a senior DTC official.

“There are some important stretches such as Mahipalpur-Vasant Kunj, which caters to the traffic headed to the IGI airport and Rajokri which connects Kapashera to Delhi-Gurgaon. These stretches also cater to heavy traffic and potholes on them lead to traffic jams too,” added the official.

The MCD admits that the incessant rains the city witnessed damaged 106 km of roads.

According to the civic body, they have identified more than 450 points which are pothole-ridden and though it had set a deadline of September 30 it was unable to meet it.

“I have asked the departments to start work on these stretches soon. A budget of R66 lakh was earmarked for this purpose but not a single stretch has been repaired. A number of councillors have decided to give their area development funds to ensure repair work is done on time,” said Jagdish Mamgain, chairman of Works Committee of the MCD.
