"The incident came to light around 4:15am on Wednesday from Mustafabad area when the neighbours of the deceased, identified as Shabana, made a PCR call to inform the local police that she was lying in a pool of blood at her house," said a senior police officer.

According to police, the victim's throat had been slit with a sharp-edged weapon.

During investigation, police found that the victim had had an argument with her husband Nizam Malik on Tuesday night over his doubts about her having an extra-marital affair.

"The neighbours said loud screams were heard from the couple's house on Tuesday night. Before sleeping on Tuesday night, the accused took out a knife and slit Shabana's throat when she was sleeping," said the officer.

Malik, who runs a tailoring unit on the ground floor of the house, initially told the police that he had seen two unidentified assailants escape from the room where his wife Shabana was found dead.

"When we questioned his children, they told us all that

had transpired last night following which Malik was arrested. In fact, soon after the incident, he'd asked his four children not to tell anyone about the incident and had even threatened to kill them," the officer added.
