Man gets 5-yr jail for trying to rape minor

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 upon Delhi resident Joginder alias Virender Sharma, relying upon the eight-year-old victim’s deposition that the accused had tried to rape her when she had gone to buy vegetables.

A Delhi court has sentenced a man to five years in jail for attempting to rape a minor girl here in 2010.

Additional sessions judge Rajneesh Kumar Gupta also imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 upon Delhi resident Joginder alias Virender Sharma, relying upon the eight-year-old victim’s deposition that the accused had tried to rape her when she had gone to buy vegetables.

“The prosecution has proved its case beyond reasonable doubt against accused (Joginder) that on February 21, 2010... accused had attempted to rape the prosecutrix (girl),” the court said.

According to the prosecution, Joginder had tried to rape the girl near a dispensary in Shiv Vihar area here on the evening of February 21, 2010, when she had gone out to buy vegetables.
