Man held for smuggling memory cards

In yet another case of smuggling of memory cards, the Customs department at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) has arrested a passenger with memory cards and other electronic items worth Rs. 26.62 lakh.

In yet another case of smuggling of memory cards, the Customs department at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) has arrested a passenger with memory cards and other electronic items worth Rs. 26.62 lakh.

“The Customs officers arrested a passenger, identified as Kamal, on Tuesday. He was carrying 1,600 Sony memory cards for Cyber-shot cameras, 3,200 game processors and other electronic items worth Rs. 26.62 lakh,” VK Goel, commissioner of custom department, said. Kamal used to hide the memory cards in his jeans and socks.

Kamal had arrived from Guangzhou, China, flight CZ-359 at 11.30pm on Monday.

In last one month, the Customs department has arrested five passengers and seized memory cards worth R1.88 crore. On Sunday, two men were arrested for trying to smuggle memory cards worth over R1.3 crore.
