Two men were arrested for murdering their childhood friend to get their hands on Rs 15,000, in east Delhi's new Ashok Nagar area, police said on Friday.

"Amit Jha and Nipun Kumar, who had been friends and partners in crime, with one Sunil Kumar, since childhood, strangulated him at his residence in New Kondli on June 21 after robbing Rs 15,000 that were to be used in his sister's wedding," said Prabhakar, deputy commissioner of police (east).
Police said they zeroed-in on the accused after circumstantial evidence and interviews with Sunil's immediate family revealed his connection to them.
Both men, who police said had perpetrated several small-time street crimes, along with Sunil on several occasions, were understood to have been told about the Rs 15,000 that Sunil's father, Ramesh, had saved for his daughter's impending marriage.
"When confronted with direct questions about the episode and their knowledge about the said amount, both men confessed to the crime," DCP Prabhakar said, adding that the victim was found to have served sentences of small duration with both his killers prior to his death.
