Manmohan preaches peace, opposition in attack mode

The monsoon session of parliament has begun. Speaking just before the beginning of the session, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh expressed the hope that the session will be productive.

The monsoon session of parliament has begun. Speaking just before the beginning of the session, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh expressed the hope that the session will be productive. He also appealed the opposition to allow matters which are in the court to be left for the court to decide.

Singh said that it is his sincere desire that session moves smoothy and all issues of national importance are discussed and debated. The PM said that the government is prepared to answer and debate the issues that the opposition will raise in the House. The PM also expressed the hope that a structured debate will take place during the monsoon session of parliament.

Talking to the reporters slightly ahead of the start of the session, the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh appealed to all segements of the House to collectively deal will issues of national importance.

Meanwhile, Opposition leader Sushma Swaraj said that they will not back out and continue to attack the govt on the issue of corruption.

Some other issues, pointed by her, which the BJP will take up in the parliament are the price rise, Telangana statehood demand, Mumbai attacks and treatment of Indian fishermen by Sri Lanka.

The Congress plans to counter-attack the BJP on the Karnataka mining scam. But party managers aren't sure how much support it would get from allies like the DMK and Trinamool.

The Lok Sabha is expected to be adjourned today on account of Bhajan Lal's death.
