The Congress hit out at the BSP on Monday, a day after Uttar Pradesh CM Mayawati claimed that Muslims had suffered under the Congress rule in the state.

“The attack on Congress is laughable. India knows that no party other than Congress has had a more inclusive approach in not only carrying all segments including social and religious groups in a rainbow coalition, but actually striving to create welfare schemes for them,” party spokesman Abhishek Singhvi said.

“In 40 years of Congress rule in UP, Muslims lived in constant fear, there was no guarantee to their lives, or religion and they were even deprived of their constitutional rights,” Mayawati had earlier commented.

“All we can say is that people of UP are about to give a devastating reply to such gross hypocrisy,” Singhvi said.
