MCD house rejects division of civic agency

“If there is any attempt to trifurcate the MCD, the government should first give ‘full state’ status to Delhi and empower the MCD with all rights mentioned in the constitution and also those that rest with the Ministry of Home Affairs,” the resolution passed at a meeting of the MCD House said.

Moving the resolution, Subhash Arya, also demanded that the powers usurped by the Delhi government from the MCD be transferred back.

Delhi cabinet has already approved a bill for the MCD’s trifurcation and formation of a new body called the Delhi Municipal Authority (DMA) to coordinate among the three bodies. The bill proposal has been sent to Home Ministry. htc
