MCD Works Committee chairman Jagdish Mamgain informed the chairperson of the Board that in these JJ camps there are 10,686 'jhuggis', occupants of which can be allotted flats under the Rajiv Rattan Awas Yojna, so to remove encroachment from MCD land.

"Due to non-availability of land, MCD can't fulfil the need for enough community halls, hospitals, school buildings and parking. The transfer of JJ camps will vacate 1,92,138 sq mts of land, which can be used for new projects in the future," he said.

Mamgain said the Slum and JJ Department was under the MCD till September 2010 and was committed to relocating JJ camps to vacate MCD land.

"Now it has been transferred to the autonomous body DUSIB Therefore, MCD needs cooperation to vacate its land on priority basis," he said.
