Admitting an appeal by the four journalists against the sentence, the court appointed senior advocate TR Andhyrujina as amicus curiae or friend of the court to assist it in the case and fixed January 16 for further hearing. A bench headed by Justice Arijit Pasayat, however, dismissed the application filed by a group of eminent citizens who had reiterated the allegations against Sabharwal and sought the same punishment as given to the journalists on September 21.
