Jethmalani was facing questions from Karan Thapar on CNN-IBN's Devil's Advocate programme when he abruptly ended the interview after lashing out at the Congress as being the party responsible for the country's poverty, corruption and all the ills plaguing it.

He was asked why he was joining the BJP now on the eve of contesting the Rajya Sabha polls though the basic differences over which he quit the party still remained unresolved.

The lawyer-turned politician said, "Now the circumstances have changed... the circumstances today are that the Congress is responsible for the poverty of this country...the Congress is responsible for the corruption of this country. Congress is responsible for all the ills of the country."

Jethmalani said he wanted a united opposition to grow and there can be no united opposition unless the BJP was a party to it.

"I am prepared to forgive and forget everything... in the higher interest of India, of the nation and the people of India who are much more dear to me than you are," he said, before walking out.
