The incident took place last night at about 8:30 pm near Moolchand in south Delhi when the girl Bhavna and her cousin was taking a walk through the locality.

"The iron rod was hanging. It did not fell but it bent hitting the girl on her head. She suffered head injuries. We will incur the expense of her treatment," Delhi Metro spokesperson Anuj Dayal said today. She was rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre.

Meanwhile, the girl's family alleged that construction workers ran away from the site soon after the incident and did not help them in taking the girl to the hospital.

Dayal said the Chief Engineer will speak to the family and those who were involved in the incident.

"I believe there was a fight between workers and locals. As a result, the focus shifted from the child to altercation," he said.

Two weeks ago, a portion of an under construction bridge of Delhi Metro has collapsed in east Delhi's Laxmi Nagar, killing two people.
