Minor raped by 20-year-old man

An 8-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 20-year-old man on the Thursday afternoon in southwest Delhi's Chhawla area, police said.

"The accused, identified as Manu, is hearing and speech impaired. He was arrested when a passerby was alerted by the victim's seven-year-old neighbour," said a senior police officer.

According to police, the incident occurred at 2:30 pm when the victim, a student of Class 3, was returning home with her seven year old neighbour from a local MCD School.

"When the children reached the Goyal Dairy Chowk, Manu approached them. He scared the seven-year-old child away and dragged the eight-year-old to an empty complex nearby where he raped her," the officer said.

Meanwhile, the scared child raised an alarm, alerting a BSES employee who was passing by.

"He rushed to the spot and caught hold of the accused. The PCR call was made half an hour later and the accused was apprehended. The victim was rushed to the Rao Tula Ram Hospital where a medical examination confirmed rape. A case has been registered at the Chhawla police station under appropriate sections of the law," the officer added.
