Police said Ramvir Singh, a shopkeeper from Sangam Vihar, returned home on January 28 and found his daughter's body on the floor.

“Yashodha Singh was making breakfast for her father when he left home. When he returned after some time, she was dead,” said a senior police officer. She was final year B.Com student pursuing her course from IGNOU.

Police had initially concluded that she died due to electricity shock but the post-mortem report, which was delayed by more than a day, revealed otherwise.

“When we sent the body for post mortem, strangulation and not electrocution turned out to be the cause of death, implicating an insider,” the officer added.

The police are yet to find out the culprit in the case. Meanwhile, a close relative of the victim has allegedly gone missing, raising police's suspicion.

“We have registered a case of murder and during the questioning of her friends and family members, we came to know that one relative is missing,” said the officer.

The police are now leaving no stone unturned in search of this man, who is also in the same age group as the victim.

“We have reasons to suspect that one of Yashodha's relatives is responsible for her murder,” said Virender Singh Chahal, additional commissioner of police, southeast Delhi.
